There was a clear interlink between our actual music video and our magazine cover as well as digipak. This represented the fact that all were linked and aimed at the same audience meaning that there was a recurring theme colour (blue and back) in order to make our product unique. Through some contextual research about the artist we understood that he already had a clothing line and the main colours were red and black. This meant that we couldn't replicate this as that meant our work wouldn't be original. The colours were only a small part regarding how all three things linked.
The character is seen dressed nicely, with a nice watch connoting his happiness and comfort at his new life. But through the digipak we can denote his hands open which in turn draws religious connotations and in a way this subverts to a typical grime artist, as grime usually entails criminality thus meaning that they break a lot of religious teachings. So in a way this is the character asking for forgiveness and admitting his wrong do doings.
From the digipak we infer that the artist is humble. We aimed to present him as a talented and down to earth individual, that way our audience would be able to relate to him as it makes his lyrics understandable and meangiful to the viewers. The visual reference of him sitting on the stairs represents his tough upbringing and in hate heritage, this makes it clear that our target audience are young black teenagers.
This screenshot is an example of the artists hardwork in the studio. This shows that he is a level headed and dedicated individual who is striving to the top. but most importantly it's an inspirational shot to young teenagers as it allows them to understand that handwork pays off in the end. The artist was resilient and fought through his difficult periods thus portraying him as mentally strong.
The mixture of dark and light natural lighting represents the turbulent period the artist was going through. Here he seems to be depressed depicted through the isolated shot and separation from society. His love and desire for his mother has left him alone and scared, he had nothing to eat and no one to talk to. In this scenario the audience gather that he had a difficult upbringing so what you see of him now are only elements his difficult early life.
The variation of the shots were able to present the positive changes in the characters life, thus creating a narrative in the video, as the audience were able to the progression in the artists life. Here is with a friend, showing he's mo longer alone and suggesting that he has moved on from the difficult periods. The facial gesticulations from his artist connotes the passion from the artist thus creating realism and relation towards the audience members.
This shot is a close up of the artists face, as a way to captivate his that sense of deviance. Here, is exhibited as a rebellious character. The black atire has connotation of evil and mischievous behaviour. Although we had aimed for the artist to come across as humble, it was essential that the audience gathered he was a deviant individual who still had a vast amount of hatred inside of him based on the fact that his mother had left him.
The deviation from natural lighting in this host is there to emphasis the importance and effectiveness of these shots. Furthermore, it's a way to present the dissatisfaction of his past. The fact that he is seen sleeping here alone connotes the detrimental aspects of being left alone. This subverts of our themes of love as he can currently feel no love based on the fact that he has no family around him.
The close relation with his sister is seen here and it conforms to one of our themes of love as it shows the character had a close bond with his family. This is also in black and white as a way to show the fact that this was also in the past. This was a vital part of our editing techniques, as we were able to differentiate through visual references whether a scene was in the present or something that had happened in the past.
