In week 14, we began editing our recording in order to make as much progress as we could. We found whilst doing the activity that finding the shots appropriate was the most difficult part, as we needed to make the footage compliment the lyrics of the song. Furthermore, it was made even more difficult as we were aiming to make the character lip sync a vast amount of the song. This meant that we needed to get the timing of our shots coinciding with the beat and lyrics of the song. After a stuttering start, this became easier to do as we were able to get use to the process thus enabling us to pull together a range of shots that worked effectively as it portrayed the character as lonely and depressed. I felt that we achieved this side to our protagonist character because he came across as desperate. I felt that this was relatable to the target audience because they haven't had the easiest of upbringings, so them seeing an individual like them who ended up being successful given them encourage to succeed and also the motivation to follow their dreams.
As the editing continued, it became apparent that we were having difficulties finding shots to compliment the lyrics of the song. So we decided to go out and do some more filming in order to fill in take some shots that we had failed to do first time around. Luckily, the filming went to plan and we were able to gather a vast amount of footage with a range of angles and shots to use in the recording. This proved really significant, as the editing became to do because we now had variety of shots, which we lacked at first. What this demonstrated to us as A-Level Media students, was that having wide variety of shots and angles is paramount in order to have a successful ending. Quick and efficient shot types, enable the video to be engaging to the audience, but in order to this there needs to be a vast array of shots to select from.
Overall, this week was really challenging and i would say the most difficult since we started the course. There was a lot of uncertainty and confusion about which shots to use. Although we did gather some momentum towards the end, i still feel that we didn't make the amount of progress that we would've wanted to. Sometimes having a week like this could be helpful, as it enables us to see where we went wrong, but at the same time allows us to keep focus and want to work harder in order to make the video it best it could be.
